Simple Delay Ableton Download For Pc
Make / Download this Instrument Rack using Simpler and any Sample You Want to make a Pitched Riser Effect via Simple Delay by Automating only One Knob!
Download the Finished Rack & Watch the Video Tutorial at the Bottom of the Page!!
Watching Tom Cosm’s latest tutorial on emulating the infamous Crab Scratch in Live using Ableton’s simple delay audio effect got me thinking. I bet I could make a sweet 1 knob riser instrument rack using the same technique. Well… I was right and it is pretty flippin’ cool!
Step 1 : Adding an instance of Simpler
I am using Ableton’s simple here, but sampler would work too… or really any instrument. I went with simpler because it is easy just to drop a new sample into it and make a customized riser with elements of which ever project you happen to be working on.
Step 2 : Adding the core effects
To get the riser effect we will need to of Live’s native audio effects. The simple delay and the gain utility.
Simple Delay set up
First right click on the title bar of the simple delay. A menu will appear. One the bottom of that menu in the last section there are 3 choices for delay make-up compensation. Choose Repitch and make sure the check mark is next to it, as shown in the picture.
Make the following changes to the delay device
- Click the Link button
- Choose time (instead of sync)
- Feedback to 100%
- Dry / Wet to 100%
Utility set up
We are using the utility to offset the gain reduction caused by the decay as the feedback dies out. You don’t need to do anything right now. We will come back to this in the Macro Mapping stage.
Step 3 : Adding Addition Effects
Now is a good time to add the Bright Long Verb preset and a limiter to the end of the chain.
Step 4 : Grouping & Macro Mapping
Now select all of the devices, including the simpler instrument and right click. From the fly out menu select group. This will group everything into an instrument rack. Now we need to do some clever routing and mapping.
The following are to be mapped to Macro 1. Beside their names are the minimum and maximum values for the Mapping settings. They are highlighted in red in the photo below.
Ableton Live Download
- Simple Delay – Time parameter – 300ms – 1.00ms (this is reversed)
- Utility – Gain – 0dB – 29.5dB
- Utility – Stereo Sep. – 100% – 150%
- Reverb – Dry/Wet – 0% – 40%
Some other useful mappings and min / max values
- Limiter – Gain – -24db – 24dB *macro 8
- Reverb – Decay – 200ms – 60s *marco 7
- Simpler – Volume – -36dB – 36dB *macro 4
Min & Max parameters in Mapping Mode for Macro Controls
Step 5 : Automating the FX
If you have done everything right you will only need to automate the Main Macro (macro 1). This might take a bit of experimentation to get the best effect. But start with a curved line that looks something like the picture below to get the most standard riser action from the Rack.
